Frequently Asked Questions about Insulation

We’ve provided answers to some common questions about insulation below. If you have more questions, please speak to an insulation expert at (405) 521-0318.

Are there any incentives available to insulate?

Yes! Use this link to find federal insulation rebates for your home. You can also plug in your zip code to ENERGY Star’s Rebate Finder to learn more about the incentives available for homeowners. The U.S. Department of Energy’s DSIRE database is also a helpful resource. Qualifying OG&E customers can also get up to $500 in rebates for making certain energy-efficient upgrades to their home. What is R-Value?
The “R” in R-value stands for resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the higher the level of resistance and the greater the insulating power. R-value requirements vary depending on climate and building type.
What R-Values are recommended for homes in this area?

The amount of insulation needed varies depending on location, building type and materials. Thrice Energy Solutions will review your project’s specifications to determine the optimal R-Value. Click here for more information about R-value requirements in our region.

Can insulation help with noise control?

Yes. Airborne noises such as conversation, running appliances, electronic devices and household equipment carry and echo through walls, ceilings and floors. Good insulation can drastically reduce this atmospheric interference, leaving rooms much quieter.

According to Energystar.gov, insulating your home can reduce the noise from outside as well as make it harder for pollen, dust and insects to enter your home. In addition to keeping the noise levels low, this will also improve the overall comfort of your home.

What are the main types of insulation to choose from?

There are a few types of insulation materials to choose from, each having its own set of pros and cons. At Thrice, we typically install fiberglass batts/blown insulation, cellulose or spray foam, depending on the project scope.

What does making a home “air tight” mean?
Until very recently, Oklahoma building codes did not mandate air tightness of homes. If your home was built prior to 2009, you may need an in-home energy audit. From there, we can make recommendations for you to improve the comfort level of your home and save on energy costs. Call (405) 521-0318 to schedule your home energy audit.
